Poetry Assignment


Prompt: Unit plan on the woes of war. Thinking in particular on World War One.


Pre Writing:
1. Close your eyes and visualize what you think war looks like.
2. Write short sentences that describe what you see in your head. What colors do you see? What type of people do you see? What do you see? How do you feel?
3. Think about what your hands do in a stressful situation.


Drafting:
1. Write out ideas for a title for your poem.
2. The title you create will be used in your poem.
3. What will you be doing, and what will your hands be doing.
4. Review my example, and the published example to help you create a new poem.
5. Begin your poem with the question " What was that?"
6. You are in a scary situation
7. Use the same structure as the model poem.
8. Be Creative!

Hurting from inside, Interlocking fingers

What was that?
storms of flying bullets
& clouds of smog

a green day to the cold sky-

better than breathing,
interlock fingers.

We will stand
two eagles praying

all the way through
